Underlining the problem

Weirdest thing happened. A friend on discord ended up being up for helping me playtest the game tabletop sim. Turns out that helps a lot! Leads to a few more changes in wording plus a new thingy.

  • Removed underlines from "CARDS" subheaders
    • Looked awful and wasn't making it easy to read. Changed to extra bold instead. SO MUCH BETTER!
  • Added underlines for section headers
    • Just makes it an better reading experience.

  • Added a "PLAYING SOLO/DUO" section
    • No idea if this will stick but playing two player left things ending way too quickly and horribly.
    • Includes alternate rulings to make it more survivable, but not too much. Maybe "more doable" would be more apt.
  • Finally added a brief description for "SCORING" section
    • Wanted to be more clear about how the game can be used with the Shadowdark RPG book via competitive scoring.
  • Added an "Idle" action
    • In playtests as a duo game, we found that sometimes it's better to do nothing rather than potentially being forced to sacrifice for no reason. Felt too much like the game was taking too much choice from the player.
  • Added an opt-out option
    • We found that having a good run could be totally spoiled without a "quit while you're ahead" option so players can now choose to escape if everyone agrees... although as I'm writing this I realize I may be changing that very soon to allow players to basically abandon the other players which admittedly just sounds funny to me. My initial thought for making it a unanimous thing was to allow the potential for a greedy player to hold players back from freedom. Maybe there's a good middle-ground? Point is that there's DEFINITELY gonna be a v1.4.
  • More boldness
    • References to the how the game can end are now SUPERBOLD but probably no one cares.

  • Changed wording on establishing turn order
    • Discovered very quickly that the old "highest value or most red" was just confusing and I feel dumb I even wrote it in the first place. Now it's simply based on "highest value red card/s".
    • This, I think, will be better at determining who goes first, basically saying highest red or reds if there's a tie. If it's still a tie anyway people can just rock-paper-scissors or something IDK.

Ok, now that this little update is done I can go sleep now. Not like it's 4am or anything...
