Diamonds Forever
Crawl » Devlog
I am back from an inspiring demo day with a very big update. You'll laugh, you'll cry...well at least I did.
Changes
- Gave the name "Peeking" to the ability to see the top card of the deck based on torch strength
- Wanted to avoid confusion over use of the word "reveal"
- Moved Fight to top of Playing A Round section
- This does a better job showing that fighting a Joker takes priority
- You now must discard kindling when escaping
- This is to imply that you had to use your remaining kindling to find your own way out of the dungeon
- I know it ups the difficulty when going back in but it does make sense thematically
- This is to imply that you had to use your remaining kindling to find your own way out of the dungeon
- You now must show your card before placing it in the shadow pile when searching
- This is to avoid possible cheating and to provide some welcome clarity
- Burn is now the 3rd step in starting a new round
- Makes the torch burning out a bit more dramatic
- Revamped scoring section
- Implemented the "extra flavour" of gem quality and type into the gems table
- Extended the gems table to allow the more descriptive headers
- Instead of being scored alphabetically by suit, it's now scored by colour
- Basically just swapped Spade and Diamond values
- This means red gems are all more valuable than black gems
- Apparently it's a little more intuitive given A) the real-life value of actual diamonds, and B) that Crawl is generally a case of red good black bad
- Spades are now described as just Sapphires rather than the somewhat edgy "Dark Sapphires" I was using to justify their value
- Added a table for completion bonuses
- Just felt cleaner than describing that there were completion bonuses and what they were
- Implemented the "extra flavour" of gem quality and type into the gems table
- Optional Gauntlet Rules are now their own section called "House Rules" and are no longer specific to the gauntlet
- Added Aces house rule
- Makes Aces special and more useful at the expense of making the Ace of Spades more threatening

Lastly I wanna give a very special thanks to my playtesters at my local games day, Conclave. This 2.6 update is what it is thanks to your feedback and I cannot be more grateful for your time, questions and insights...even when any of ye were leaving the rest of us to die while you scurried off with your gems. Great craic all round!
